Postcards, Space Ads & More
One page is really less to discuss all the direct response marketing techniques. So, I'll try to be succint.
Postcards
Sending postcards is one of the cheapest ways of marketing offline. Mailing postcards costs a lot less than mailing entire letters. The only problem with postcards is limited space. But if all we are doing is promoting a free report on a website, this limited postcard space is plenty!

Direct Mail Letters
Direct mail letters is an expensive option if all you want to do is send people an offer to go to your website and download a free report. The costs of mailing doubles. But direct mail will also bring in a higher response rate than postcards.

Here is what to do:

Write a salesletter.

Headline.
-
Subheadline declaring "Free report".

Problem. Solution.
-
Why you wrote the report.
-
What qualified you to write the report.
-
What will happen if people don't download the report now.
-
How can they download their report now.
-
Add another letter to the package. Let this letter be the "credibility" builder. Make it full of testimonials you've received.

Print out these letters, stuff them in envelopes, and mail them.

Space Ads
You could also buy space ads in magazines and newspapers and drive people to visit your website and download a free report through these ads. You write space ads the same way you would write a salesletter. Just take out all the "dear friend" salutations.
For a free report, the best idea would be to buy 1/4th or 1/8th page ads. Half page or full page ads are almost always not necessary and quite expensive too.
